Walnut sideboards give a dining room its horizon: a long, dark line at hip height that everything else in the room measures itself against. Of all our walnut furniture, this is the piece you see from every chair, which is why its length and tone matter more than its drawer count.
The builds vary, so read each listing. Most pieces here come from Noir, made from walnut and walnut veneer, many with hand-carved fronts, in Dark Walnut, Black Walnut, Greige Walnut and Ebony Walnut. Others carry a walnut finish over solid mango or acacia, solid bamboo in a Black Walnut stain, or veneer strips over MDF and rubberwood. Ambella's Basil uses bookmatched walnut burl.
Walnut sideboards set the line of the room
A walnut sideboard works as the quiet counterweight to the table. If the wood is still an open question, our wider range of sideboards and buffets covers other woods and finishes; choose walnut when you want the wall to feel settled rather than bright.
The common mistake is matching the name instead of the undertone. A greige walnut sideboard next to one of our red-brown walnut dining tables reads as two woods arguing. They do not need to match, but they should lean the same way, warm with warm, cool with cool.
Sideboard length against wall width
Leave air at both ends
Lengths in the titles here run from 54 to 90 inches. As a working rule, let the sideboard take about two thirds to three quarters of the wall and leave real space at each end, so it reads as furniture and not built-in cabinetry. Depth matters too: the Basil is 18 inches deep, the Mirage 23, and those inches come straight out of the path behind the dining chairs.
A walnut credenza or a walnut buffet
People use the words loosely. A credenza usually sits lower, with doors across the front, and suits a living room or a wall under art. A walnut buffet tends to carry drawers for linens and flatware and sits nearer serving height. Decide by what you will store, not by the label on the listing.

Marble, black metal and brass
The Gauss pairs fluted drawer fronts with a white marble slab top, and the stone keeps a dark walnut sideboard from going flat once the lamps come on. The Wolfgang, Thomson, Lanon and Illusion stand on matte black metal, which reads sharper against dark paint. Brass hardware on the Basil catches lamplight in small points, which is often all a long cabinet needs.
Live edge and carved fronts
A 54-inch live edge buffet brings irregular edges that soften a room of straight lines. The carved Noir fronts do something the others cannot: in raking evening light every groove throws a shadow, so the cabinet looks different at dinner than it did at lunch. That is the nuance flat photos never show.
A mid century walnut sideboard at night
Put one lamp on it, not two. A single pool of warm light on dark grain, a bowl, maybe a stack of plates, and the rest of the wall allowed to go quiet. The sideboard holds the room better when it is not asked to perform.
