A 36 inch and under vanity with room to set things down
A vanity between 33 and 36 inches is the first width where one person can use the counter without negotiating with it. The sink stays centered, and there is landing space on both sides of the faucet for a tray, a candle, the things that usually end up on the tank lid. The room gains a real surface without paying for it in floor. If your wall is still between bands, the guide to bathroom vanity sizes places this range next to its neighbors.
There are 257 pieces here from Wyndham Collection, James Martin Vanities and Ambella Home, and every one that names its sink type is a single. That makes this band the deepest part of our single sink vanities, and the one where finish and form choices are widest. The same families appear across the full range of luxury bathroom vanities, which helps when a hall bath and a primary bath should share a language without matching exactly.
Bathroom vanities 33 to 36 inches for walls that stop short
Most of this collection sits at 36 inches, 239 pieces in all. The small group below it is the reason the range exists. Fifteen pieces measure 35 inches, and a few land at 33 and 34. Those are for the wall that measures 35 and a quarter once the tile is on, where a 36 inch cabinet would have to be shaved or wedged. An inch of air at the side of a cabinet is not wasted space. It is what makes the piece look chosen rather than squeezed.
The practical takeaway is to measure after tile and trim, at counter height as well as at the floor. Old walls are rarely plumb, and the difference between the two readings can decide which width you need.
Vanity with sink, or a cabinet with its own top
At this width the countertop starts to have presence, so it is worth deciding early whether the top comes with the cabinet or is sourced on its own. A matched top is scaled to the cabinet and removes a step from installation. A separate top gives you control over stone and edge, at the cost of another measurement to get right. The mistake to avoid is ordering a separate top before the cabinet arrives. Measure the real cabinet, then cut the stone.
Sink chests in the mid size bathroom vanity range
Seventeen Ambella Home sink chests sit here, and they change the room more than their share of the grid suggests. A sink chest reads as furniture, grounded on legs, with a line of shadow under the cabinet that makes the floor run on toward the wall. It gives an ordinary bathroom the air of an older house. In the evening, when a low lamp throws that shadow across the tile, the room reads longer than it measures. A closed cabinet that meets the floor does the opposite, quieter and more built in, and better at hiding what lives underneath.
Oak, walnut and the weight of a wider cabinet
Three feet of wood front is a lot of surface, and the grain becomes part of the room. Oak appears in 53 titles here and walnut in 38, with black in 64 and white in 62. Oak stays light and legible in morning sun and turns honey colored under warm bulbs. Walnut looks almost black at night, which is beautiful against pale stone and heavy against dark tile.
The nuance most guides skip is that a wider cabinet makes finish choices louder. A gray that looked calm on a small door can dominate a 36 inch front. Look at a large sample, at night, with your own lighting on.
A modern bathroom vanity that still leaves a walkway
Standard vanities run roughly 18 to 21 inches deep, and at this width depth decides whether the room flows. Choose the width your wall allows, then check the path from door to shower with the drawers open. If that path stays clear, the vanity has done its job quietly.
