Bar tables put people at standing eye level, and a room behaves differently for it. Nobody sinks into a sofa, and the talk stays where it started. Every table here stands 41" or 42" high, a true bar height, chosen the way we choose all our high end furniture: material first, in marble on aged brass or matte black steel, and solid chamcha wood on black iron.
A high top bar table is for the drink before dinner, not the dinner. For a long sit, our bistro tables sit at ordinary dining height.
How to choose a bar height table
Match bar stools to a 41" or 42" top
Stool height is the mistake to avoid. A bar height table wants a stool with a seat around 28" to 30" high, which leaves 11" to 14" between seat and tabletop for knees and a forearm. Counter stools, at 24" to 26", leave you reaching up for your glass. Measure the stools you own before you fall for a top. Our mid century modern bar stools come in both heights.
Round bar table or long bar table
A round bar table gathers people. Stools splay wider than chairs, so a 32" round suits two, three at a squeeze, and a 36" round seats three or four. The 72" long bar table takes three stools down each side, and at 26" deep it also works against a window as a drink rail. A seated dinner for six belongs at one of our luxury dining tables.
Weight keeps a high top bar table steady
Height magnifies every wobble. A table that feels fine at 30" can rock at 42" when someone leans on the edge. These run from 102 to 300 pounds, so choose the spot before delivery day.
Marble top bar tables on brass or black steel
Four of these carry a 36" round marble top on a steel base. One pairs Bianco Crown marble with aged brass. Another sets Night Snow marble, with quieter veining, over matte black. Stone reads cool and exact at noon and turns soft under a warm lamp, which is when a bar table does most of its work.
Aged brass or matte black
Aged brass catches the nearest lamp and draws a warm line under the stone. Matte black drops out of sight after dark, so the marble seems to float. If the room already has brass hardware, pick black. Keep coasters close, since marble etches where lemon and red wine sit.
Wood bar tables in solid chamcha
The three wood bar tables are chamcha. Two are 32" rounds cut as a slice, with visible growth rings, one Natural and one Gray Stone. The third is the 72" long top, with flowing light and dark grain. Small cracks and holes vary from piece to piece, so no two tops match.
Pedestal, crossed legs or an end frame
The base decides where knees go. The Natural round rests on a tapered black iron pedestal that steps down to a flat round foot, so every stool gets the same clearance. The Gray Stone round stands on four flat black metal legs that cross at the floor, clear of knees. The long table sits on two black iron ends joined by a flat lower rail and a round crossbar, which leaves both long sides open.
Where to put a high top bar table
Put a high top table where people already stand, at the edge of a kitchen or by a window. Set one of our bar carts nearby and the drinks get a home that is not the kitchen counter.
Then give it a light of its own. Under the main ceiling fixture a tall table looks stranded. Under a low, warm pendant it becomes the place everyone ends up at eleven at night.
Bar table questions
What height is a bar table?
Bar height means a top around 40" to 42" high. Counter height is lower, close to 36".
What is the difference between a bar table and a pub table?
Pub table is the older name for the same tall table, often a smaller round one for two or three. Both take bar stools.
