Description

Cream Cotton Floor Lamp with Tapered Column Base | 49 Inch | Floor Lamp

At 49.21 inches the proportion between column and shade reverses from the table lamp versions in this series -- the column is now the dominant visual element and the shade reads as a compact cap at the top of a tall, narrowing form. From across the room the piece reads as an organic vertical with a pale fabric-wrapped column and a small conical shade emitting light at its peak. That reading is closer to a sculptural column than to a traditional arc-and-shade floor lamp. No exposed hardware, no visible iron, no finish shift -- the cotton wrap runs the full length of the column to the floor.

The proportional difference from the table lamp is the piece's most specific design quality. In a corner beside a sofa the tall tapered column reads as a light-emitting vertical form that fills the corner without claiming floor area. The shade is small enough relative to the column that the light output is atmospheric rather than broadly ambient -- it contributes warmth rather than illuminating a large area. That trade-off matters in rooms where task light is handled separately and the floor lamp's function is atmosphere and visual scale.

The cream cotton in this form reads slightly warmer than it appears in the product image -- at 49 inches the full column in warm-hued cotton has a significant pale vertical presence in a room, particularly in evening light when the shade glows against the warm cotton column surface. Against a dark wall the pale column reads as the room's primary vertical light element; against a pale wall it integrates as a tonal complement.

Moe's Home Collection:Forty Years of Furniture With a Point of View

Some brands earn trust loudly. Moe's has never needed to. The evidence shows up in rooms, season after season, in pieces that end up feeling more considered than their owners quite anticipated. More grounded. More alive.

That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone decided, a long time ago, that material and craft were worth the extra conversation, and never really stopped having it.

The Pieces Feel Found - Not Simply Bought

The Origin

A Family That BuiltSomething From Nothing

Moe Samieian Sr. arrived in Canada with an engineering degree and almost nowhere to use it. So he sold rugs at road shows, worked on commission, and learned the retail floor through years of direct customer contact.

In 1986 he opened his first store in Vancouver. Walking the trade shows, he kept noticing the same thing: most furniture looked identical. So he started hunting for pieces with something to say. Antiques. Flea-market finds. Objects with texture and history. More stores followed, and in 1999 he moved decisively into wholesale.

His children Sara and Moe Jr. carried that instinct forward. Not what merely sells. What resonates. That distinction still drives every collection.

The materials earn their place. Wood warms the edges. Stone steadies the eye. Steel adds tension. Glass lets the composition breathe. A hand-worked surface keeps a modern room from feeling too resolved.

The goal was never perfection. It was presence.

The Craft

Material First - Trend Second

Every collection is designed in-house, then built through a manufacturing network developed over decades. Vietnam, India, Italy, Poland, Canada, the USA. Not the lowest-cost option in any of those places. Long-term makers who've been held to the same standards long enough that the standards stopped needing to be explained.

The construction is what you'd expect from that kind of relationship. Solid hardwood frames. High-density foam. Hardware that doesn't announce itself by failing early. These are not selling points so much as baseline expectations that a lot of furniture quietly fails to meet.

The materials go further than that. Acacia grain that no engineered surface comes close to replicating. Stone that grounds a room both visually and physically, which are different things and both matter. Mixed metals chosen for tension rather than coordination. FSC-certified wood and responsible sourcing throughout, though the more honest argument for it shows up over time, in how the pieces age rather than what the spec sheet says.

- Moe's does not source furniture. It curates it.
