Mako Desk in Grey Shagreen, Black Oak, and Brass, Art Deco Proportions
The Mako desk brings the same material logic as the Mako mirror to a work surface: grey shagreen-patterned polyurethane on the drawer fronts, solid black oak for the top surface and outer frame, and brass hardware at every point of contact. Three drawers span the front of the desk, each faced in the scaled grey texture with a horizontal brass bar pull running the full drawer width. The brass pulls read as low graphic lines across the drawer faces, which keeps the hardware proportional to the 63-inch span rather than decorative at a smaller scale.
The Mako Desk from Moe's Home Collection sits on two brass-finished panel legs, one at each end, connected by a lower stretcher in the same brass finish that runs the full width of the desk. That stretcher provides structure at foot level and completes the visual symmetry of the piece: equal brass weight at the top pulls and the bottom rail, framing the grey shagreen faces between them. At 27.5 inches deep and 30 inches tall the work surface gives a comfortable seated working position with real usable depth. The black oak top sits clean above the drawer bank. At 103 lbs the desk settles into a room.

That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone decided, a long time ago, that material and craft were worth the extra conversation, and never really stopped having it.

The Origin
A Family That BuiltSomething From Nothing
Moe Samieian Sr. arrived in Canada with an engineering degree and almost nowhere to use it. So he sold rugs at road shows, worked on commission, and learned the retail floor through years of direct customer contact.
In 1986 he opened his first store in Vancouver. Walking the trade shows, he kept noticing the same thing: most furniture looked identical. So he started hunting for pieces with something to say. Antiques. Flea-market finds. Objects with texture and history. More stores followed, and in 1999 he moved decisively into wholesale.
His children Sara and Moe Jr. carried that instinct forward. Not what merely sells. What resonates. That distinction still drives every collection.
The materials earn their place. Wood warms the edges. Stone steadies the eye. Steel adds tension. Glass lets the composition breathe. A hand-worked surface keeps a modern room from feeling too resolved.
The goal was never perfection. It was presence.

The Craft
Material First - Trend Second
Every collection is designed in-house, then built through a manufacturing network developed over decades. Vietnam, India, Italy, Poland, Canada, the USA. Not the lowest-cost option in any of those places. Long-term makers who've been held to the same standards long enough that the standards stopped needing to be explained.
The construction is what you'd expect from that kind of relationship. Solid hardwood frames. High-density foam. Hardware that doesn't announce itself by failing early. These are not selling points so much as baseline expectations that a lot of furniture quietly fails to meet.
The materials go further than that. Acacia grain that no engineered surface comes close to replicating. Stone that grounds a room both visually and physically, which are different things and both matter. Mixed metals chosen for tension rather than coordination. FSC-certified wood and responsible sourcing throughout, though the more honest argument for it shows up over time, in how the pieces age rather than what the spec sheet says.
