Description

Black Solid Ash Writing Desk with Angled Iron Legs and Center Drawer | 63 Inch | Home Office Desk

The same form as the natural oak version, resolved entirely in black. The solid ash top carries the dark finish deep into the grain - the surface reads as black but the grain is still present in raking light, the wood texture visible without any warm tone competing with the overall dark register. One centered flush drawer in the front apron. Two angled black iron leg sets kick backward from the apron to flat base plates at the floor, the top and the base reading as a continuous dark object from the front.

All-black desks behave differently in a room than mixed-material ones: the piece reads as a single form rather than a material conversation, which suits rooms where the point is visual quiet rather than material contrast. At 26 inches deep it fits tightly against a wall; at 29.5 inches it is standard working height. The black ash top will show the grain subtly in direct light - it is wood that reads black, not a lacquered surface pretending at it. At 70.4 lbs it is noticeably lighter than the oak version and repositions easily. In rooms that carry other black or dark furniture this desk disappears into the vocabulary. In lighter rooms it reads as the single dark anchor. Some assembly required.

The Profecto Desk from Moe's Home Collection measures 63 inches wide by 26 inches deep and 29.5 inches tall. Solid ash top in black finish with center drawer, on black iron angled leg base. At 70.4 lbs it assembles with one person. Some assembly required.

Moe's Home Collection:Forty Years of Furniture With a Point of View

Some brands earn trust loudly. Moe's has never needed to. The evidence shows up in rooms, season after season, in pieces that end up feeling more considered than their owners quite anticipated. More grounded. More alive.

That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone decided, a long time ago, that material and craft were worth the extra conversation, and never really stopped having it.

The Pieces Feel Found - Not Simply Bought

The Origin

A Family That BuiltSomething From Nothing

Moe Samieian Sr. arrived in Canada with an engineering degree and almost nowhere to use it. So he sold rugs at road shows, worked on commission, and learned the retail floor through years of direct customer contact.

In 1986 he opened his first store in Vancouver. Walking the trade shows, he kept noticing the same thing: most furniture looked identical. So he started hunting for pieces with something to say. Antiques. Flea-market finds. Objects with texture and history. More stores followed, and in 1999 he moved decisively into wholesale.

His children Sara and Moe Jr. carried that instinct forward. Not what merely sells. What resonates. That distinction still drives every collection.

The materials earn their place. Wood warms the edges. Stone steadies the eye. Steel adds tension. Glass lets the composition breathe. A hand-worked surface keeps a modern room from feeling too resolved.

The goal was never perfection. It was presence.

The Craft

Material First - Trend Second

Every collection is designed in-house, then built through a manufacturing network developed over decades. Vietnam, India, Italy, Poland, Canada, the USA. Not the lowest-cost option in any of those places. Long-term makers who've been held to the same standards long enough that the standards stopped needing to be explained.

The construction is what you'd expect from that kind of relationship. Solid hardwood frames. High-density foam. Hardware that doesn't announce itself by failing early. These are not selling points so much as baseline expectations that a lot of furniture quietly fails to meet.

The materials go further than that. Acacia grain that no engineered surface comes close to replicating. Stone that grounds a room both visually and physically, which are different things and both matter. Mixed metals chosen for tension rather than coordination. FSC-certified wood and responsible sourcing throughout, though the more honest argument for it shows up over time, in how the pieces age rather than what the spec sheet says.

- Moe's does not source furniture. It curates it.
