The same form as the natural oak version -- spindle back, curved top rail, shaped seat, four angled legs with stretcher -- but in solid walnut, and the material change is substantial enough that the two chairs read as different choices rather than simply different tones. Walnut is a denser, more figured wood. The grain moves in darker, more varied patterns. At a dining table, these carry more visual weight and introduce a more grounded presence than the lighter honey oak version would.
At 11 pounds per chair, they move as easily as the oak version despite the heavier material reading. The spindle back remains the right structural element in walnut -- thin enough that the back doesn't block the wall behind it, resolved enough to read as real furniture rather than a simplified silhouette. The walnut grain on the seat is particularly legible: the veneer over plywood catches light differently than the solid spindles above, and the two textures give the chair depth.
The darker tone makes these chairs more demanding of surrounding materials than the natural oak version. They earn their place best where there's other dark material to receive them -- a dark tabletop, moody walls, rich textiles. Moe Samieian Sr. arrived in Canada with an engineering degree and almost nowhere to use it. So he sold rugs at road shows, worked on commission, and learned the retail floor through years of direct customer contact.
In 1986 he opened his first store in Vancouver. Walking the trade shows, he kept noticing the same thing: most furniture looked identical. So he started hunting for pieces with something to say. Antiques. Flea-market finds. Objects with texture and history. More stores followed, and in 1999 he moved decisively into wholesale.
His children Sara and Moe Jr. carried that instinct forward. Not what merely sells. What resonates. That distinction still drives every collection.
The materials earn their place. Wood warms the edges. Stone steadies the eye. Steel adds tension. Glass lets the composition breathe. A hand-worked surface keeps a modern room from feeling too resolved.

The Craft
Material First - Trend Second
Every collection is designed in-house, then built through a manufacturing network developed over decades. Vietnam, India, Italy, Poland, Canada, the USA. Not the lowest-cost option in any of those places. Long-term makers who've been held to the same standards long enough that the standards stopped needing to be explained.
The construction is what you'd expect from that kind of relationship. Solid hardwood frames. High-density foam. Hardware that doesn't announce itself by failing early. These are not selling points so much as baseline expectations that a lot of furniture quietly fails to meet.
The materials go further than that. Acacia grain that no engineered surface comes close to replicating. Stone that grounds a room both visually and physically, which are different things and both matter. Mixed metals chosen for tension rather than coordination. FSC-certified wood and responsible sourcing throughout, though the more honest argument for it shows up over time, in how the pieces age rather than what the spec sheet says.
