Description

Cream Faux Shearling Ottoman with Dark Mango Wood Plinth Base | 18 Inch | Ottoman

Two materials in deliberate opposition: a solid dark espresso mango wood cube as the base -- a clean, geometric plinth form with no taper or ornament -- topped with a rounded faux shearling cushion that overhangs the plinth at its perimeter and reads as a soft, textural volume above the hard dark base. The shearling is cream -- dense, curly loops of faux fiber whose texture catches light as hundreds of small curves and micro-shadows, the surface reading as deeply dimensional rather than flat at any viewing distance. In morning light the curled loops catch the directional angle as a shifting surface, some rows of fiber illuminated, others in relative shadow, the texture fully alive.

The pairing is the piece's design argument. The dark geometric plinth is resolved and formal; the cream shearling is organic and tactile. Neither element alone makes this particular statement -- the same cushion on short legs reads as domestic; on this dark plinth it reads as a composed material object. In warm lamplight the cream shearling develops depth as the light reaches the tops of the curled loops and skips the recesses, the surface reading with a warmth that flat upholstery cannot replicate. The dark plinth below reads as near-black at floor level, its clean cube geometry a composed architectural counterpoint to the organic cushion above.

At 18 by 18 and 17.5 inches high the scale is compact -- the right proportion for a footrest beside a lounge chair, or as a low side surface for a book or tray in a bedroom corner. The cream faux shearling brings tactile warmth to the seating zone without the weight or visual density of a full upholstered ottoman. The shearling surface can be spot-cleaned with care; avoid saturating the fabric pile with moisture.

Moe's Home Collection:Forty Years of Furniture With a Point of View

Some brands earn trust loudly. Moe's has never needed to. The evidence shows up in rooms, season after season, in pieces that end up feeling more considered than their owners quite anticipated. More grounded. More alive.

That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone decided, a long time ago, that material and craft were worth the extra conversation, and never really stopped having it.

The Pieces Feel Found - Not Simply Bought

The Origin

A Family That BuiltSomething From Nothing

Moe Samieian Sr. arrived in Canada with an engineering degree and almost nowhere to use it. So he sold rugs at road shows, worked on commission, and learned the retail floor through years of direct customer contact.

In 1986 he opened his first store in Vancouver. Walking the trade shows, he kept noticing the same thing: most furniture looked identical. So he started hunting for pieces with something to say. Antiques. Flea-market finds. Objects with texture and history. More stores followed, and in 1999 he moved decisively into wholesale.

His children Sara and Moe Jr. carried that instinct forward. Not what merely sells. What resonates. That distinction still drives every collection.

The materials earn their place. Wood warms the edges. Stone steadies the eye. Steel adds tension. Glass lets the composition breathe. A hand-worked surface keeps a modern room from feeling too resolved.

The goal was never perfection. It was presence.

The Craft

Material First - Trend Second

Every collection is designed in-house, then built through a manufacturing network developed over decades. Vietnam, India, Italy, Poland, Canada, the USA. Not the lowest-cost option in any of those places. Long-term makers who've been held to the same standards long enough that the standards stopped needing to be explained.

The construction is what you'd expect from that kind of relationship. Solid hardwood frames. High-density foam. Hardware that doesn't announce itself by failing early. These are not selling points so much as baseline expectations that a lot of furniture quietly fails to meet.

The materials go further than that. Acacia grain that no engineered surface comes close to replicating. Stone that grounds a room both visually and physically, which are different things and both matter. Mixed metals chosen for tension rather than coordination. FSC-certified wood and responsible sourcing throughout, though the more honest argument for it shows up over time, in how the pieces age rather than what the spec sheet says.

- Moe's does not source furniture. It curates it.
