Rivalto Dining Chairs in Brown Solid Elm with a Woven Rattan Oval Back, Set of Two
The Rivalto chair is a medallion-back dining chair in the French bistro tradition, updated with elm and rattan rather than the beech and cane of the original type. The back is a full oval of woven rattan held in a solid elm ring, and the seat is rattan as well, the open weave keeping the chair visually light and giving it the characteristic breath that caned furniture has always had. In warm brown the elm frame reads as quietly aged rather than freshly stained.
The Rivalto Dining Chairs from Moe's Home Collection sit at 37 inches tall and 17.7 inches wide, proportioned for a standard dining table without crowding. The curved rear legs and front bracing follow the classic bistro profile, the curves in the elm giving the chair a slight visual movement that straight-legged modern dining chairs cannot replicate. The Origin
A Family That BuiltSomething From Nothing
Moe Samieian Sr. arrived in Canada with an engineering degree and almost nowhere to use it. So he sold rugs at road shows, worked on commission, and learned the retail floor through years of direct customer contact.
In 1986 he opened his first store in Vancouver. Walking the trade shows, he kept noticing the same thing: most furniture looked identical. So he started hunting for pieces with something to say. Antiques. Flea-market finds. Objects with texture and history. More stores followed, and in 1999 he moved decisively into wholesale.
His children Sara and Moe Jr. carried that instinct forward. Not what merely sells. What resonates. That distinction still drives every collection.
The materials earn their place. Wood warms the edges. Stone steadies the eye. Steel adds tension. Glass lets the composition breathe. A hand-worked surface keeps a modern room from feeling too resolved.
The goal was never perfection. It was presence.

The Craft
Material First - Trend Second
Every collection is designed in-house, then built through a manufacturing network developed over decades. Vietnam, India, Italy, Poland, Canada, the USA. Not the lowest-cost option in any of those places. Long-term makers who've been held to the same standards long enough that the standards stopped needing to be explained.
The construction is what you'd expect from that kind of relationship. Solid hardwood frames. High-density foam. Hardware that doesn't announce itself by failing early. These are not selling points so much as baseline expectations that a lot of furniture quietly fails to meet.
The materials go further than that. Acacia grain that no engineered surface comes close to replicating. Stone that grounds a room both visually and physically, which are different things and both matter. Mixed metals chosen for tension rather than coordination. FSC-certified wood and responsible sourcing throughout, though the more honest argument for it shows up over time, in how the pieces age rather than what the spec sheet says.
