Description

Warm Black Upholstered Accent Chair with Loose Back Cushion | 35 Inch | Accent Chair

The upholstery combines polyester fabric and top grain leather -- different surfaces in the chair reading in different materials, with leather appearing at the arm surfaces where contact wear would otherwise be most visible. The overall color is warm black: a deep charcoal with a brown undertone that reads more comfortably against warm wood tones and natural fibers than a cool near-black would. In warm lamplight it deepens but holds its warmth. The fill is foam, fiber, and faux feather -- the faux feather contributing the soft, slightly unsettled quality of the loose back cushion, which sits proud of the back panel rather than being integrated into it.

That loose back cushion is the form's main behavioral quality. Where most compact armchairs have a hard-back or fully integrated back, the loose cushion here introduces a casual, lived-in quality -- the chair that invites you to adjust rather than the chair that holds you in position. The arms are low and gently curved, not squared or high, which keeps the silhouette from reading as formal. Four slim tapered rubber wood legs carry the upholstered body with just enough lift to separate the dark form from the floor and give it a mid-century lightness in silhouette.

At 31.5W x 35.8D the chair is compact but genuinely deep -- it reads as a relaxed seat rather than a perch. The depth is one of the form's pleasures; the other is the warm black colorway that works in rooms running either warm-neutral or dark, without the visual severance of a cooler black. Against pale warm walls the chair reads as an anchoring dark note. Against darker surfaces it integrates and recedes.

Moe's Home Collection:Forty Years of Furniture With a Point of View

Some brands earn trust loudly. Moe's has never needed to. The evidence shows up in rooms, season after season, in pieces that end up feeling more considered than their owners quite anticipated. More grounded. More alive.

That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone decided, a long time ago, that material and craft were worth the extra conversation, and never really stopped having it.

The Pieces Feel Found - Not Simply Bought

The Origin

A Family That BuiltSomething From Nothing

Moe Samieian Sr. arrived in Canada with an engineering degree and almost nowhere to use it. So he sold rugs at road shows, worked on commission, and learned the retail floor through years of direct customer contact.

In 1986 he opened his first store in Vancouver. Walking the trade shows, he kept noticing the same thing: most furniture looked identical. So he started hunting for pieces with something to say. Antiques. Flea-market finds. Objects with texture and history. More stores followed, and in 1999 he moved decisively into wholesale.

His children Sara and Moe Jr. carried that instinct forward. Not what merely sells. What resonates. That distinction still drives every collection.

The materials earn their place. Wood warms the edges. Stone steadies the eye. Steel adds tension. Glass lets the composition breathe. A hand-worked surface keeps a modern room from feeling too resolved.

The goal was never perfection. It was presence.

The Craft

Material First - Trend Second

Every collection is designed in-house, then built through a manufacturing network developed over decades. Vietnam, India, Italy, Poland, Canada, the USA. Not the lowest-cost option in any of those places. Long-term makers who've been held to the same standards long enough that the standards stopped needing to be explained.

The construction is what you'd expect from that kind of relationship. Solid hardwood frames. High-density foam. Hardware that doesn't announce itself by failing early. These are not selling points so much as baseline expectations that a lot of furniture quietly fails to meet.

The materials go further than that. Acacia grain that no engineered surface comes close to replicating. Stone that grounds a room both visually and physically, which are different things and both matter. Mixed metals chosen for tension rather than coordination. FSC-certified wood and responsible sourcing throughout, though the more honest argument for it shows up over time, in how the pieces age rather than what the spec sheet says.

- Moe's does not source furniture. It curates it.
