Black Cast Aluminum Vase with Ruffled Opening (FI-1134-02) by Moe's Home Collection

Black Cast Aluminum Vase with Ruffled Opening | 13 Inch | Vase
The opening is the form's defining element. Rather than a clean circular rim, the top of this vase resolves in a series of soft irregular waves -- the aluminum cast to imitate the way a flower opens or fabric gathers when pressed from below. From the front the waved rim silhouettes against the room; from directly above it reads as a star or petal form with the interior dark aluminum visible at center. The body below tapers in a controlled column that narrows slightly toward the base, making the organic rim at the top the contrast point against an otherwise disciplined form.
The black cast aluminum has a surface quality that is not pure matte flat -- there is slight dimensional variation across the body, a subtle texture in the cast surface that catches ambient light differently in daylight than in evening lamplight. At evening the ruffled rim picks up light across each curve's peak, reading as a series of small highlight lines against the dark body; in daylight the whole form reads as a compact dark sculptural volume.
At 8 by 8 by 13.5 inches and 5.08 pounds it has the weight and presence of a solid cast object. Filled with dried botanicals, bare branches, or left empty, the form reads as a sculptural object first -- the ruffled opening is too specific a gesture to be treated as simply functional. In a room with other dark or organic elements the black cast vase connects by material and spirit; in a pale or neutral room it reads as the primary dark accent object at this scale.

Moe's Home Collection:Forty Years of Furniture With a Point of View
Some brands earn trust loudly. Moe's has never needed to. The evidence shows up in rooms, season after season, in pieces that end up feeling more considered than their owners quite anticipated. More grounded. More alive.
That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone decided, a long time ago, that material and craft were worth the extra conversation, and never really stopped having it.
A Design House, Not a Furniture Factory
The Pieces Feel Found - Not Simply Bought

The Origin
A Family That BuiltSomething From Nothing
Moe Samieian Sr. arrived in Canada with an engineering degree and almost nowhere to use it. So he sold rugs at road shows, worked on commission, and learned the retail floor through years of direct customer contact.
In 1986 he opened his first store in Vancouver. Walking the trade shows, he kept noticing the same thing: most furniture looked identical. So he started hunting for pieces with something to say. Antiques. Flea-market finds. Objects with texture and history. More stores followed, and in 1999 he moved decisively into wholesale.
His children Sara and Moe Jr. carried that instinct forward. Not what merely sells. What resonates. That distinction still drives every collection.
The materials earn their place. Wood warms the edges. Stone steadies the eye. Steel adds tension. Glass lets the composition breathe. A hand-worked surface keeps a modern room from feeling too resolved.
The goal was never perfection. It was presence.
Moe's Is Built for PeopleWho Notice the Difference

The Craft
Material First - Trend Second
Every collection is designed in-house, then built through a manufacturing network developed over decades. Vietnam, India, Italy, Poland, Canada, the USA. Not the lowest-cost option in any of those places. Long-term makers who've been held to the same standards long enough that the standards stopped needing to be explained.
The construction is what you'd expect from that kind of relationship. Solid hardwood frames. High-density foam. Hardware that doesn't announce itself by failing early. These are not selling points so much as baseline expectations that a lot of furniture quietly fails to meet.
The materials go further than that. Acacia grain that no engineered surface comes close to replicating. Stone that grounds a room both visually and physically, which are different things and both matter. Mixed metals chosen for tension rather than coordination. FSC-certified wood and responsible sourcing throughout, though the more honest argument for it shows up over time, in how the pieces age rather than what the spec sheet says.
- Moe's does not source furniture. It curates it.
