Description

Burl Veneer Coffee Table with Drawer Storage and Cylinder Legs | 55 Inch | Coffee Table

Burl is the material event here. The top surface, the sides, and the two drawer fronts are all covered in burl veneer -- the highly figured, swirling grain pattern that forms where a tree experiences irregular growth, producing a surface of dense, spiraling figure that no two pieces repeat. Against the living room's floor and rug the warm brown burl reads from across the room as a rich, active surface -- not a uniform wood tone but a material with genuine visual complexity, the figure visible at any distance as a field of interlocking swirls and irregular grain. This is a different visual category from plain oak or walnut veneer, and the room should be arranged to give it room to read.

The table is low and wide at 55 by 30 by 15 inches -- a long, settled horizontal at seating level. A narrow dark inset frame at the top perimeter provides a composed border between the burl surface and the room's air around it, the dark line giving the burl's active figure a defined edge. Two drawers on the front face with small round pulls provide enclosed living room storage, the drawer fronts continuing the burl pattern across the face of the case rather than breaking the material continuity. Short, chunky cylindrical solid oak legs at each corner lift the case slightly above the floor, the rounded leg forms reading as warm wood accents at the base consistent with the piece's solid oak structural material.

The practical reality of burl veneer: it is a surface material applied over MDF substrate, which makes it stable and consistent but also means the surface reads best without direct moisture exposure or abrasion. Use coasters; wipe spills promptly. The burl figure will vary between production runs and even within a single piece -- the swirling grain is an unpredictable natural pattern, and part of the material's appeal is that it cannot be exactly predicted or specified. A flat, uniform wood surface is predictable; burl is not, and that is the point.

Moe's Home Collection:Forty Years of Furniture With a Point of View

Some brands earn trust loudly. Moe's has never needed to. The evidence shows up in rooms, season after season, in pieces that end up feeling more considered than their owners quite anticipated. More grounded. More alive.

That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone decided, a long time ago, that material and craft were worth the extra conversation, and never really stopped having it.

The Pieces Feel Found - Not Simply Bought

The Origin

A Family That BuiltSomething From Nothing

Moe Samieian Sr. arrived in Canada with an engineering degree and almost nowhere to use it. So he sold rugs at road shows, worked on commission, and learned the retail floor through years of direct customer contact.

In 1986 he opened his first store in Vancouver. Walking the trade shows, he kept noticing the same thing: most furniture looked identical. So he started hunting for pieces with something to say. Antiques. Flea-market finds. Objects with texture and history. More stores followed, and in 1999 he moved decisively into wholesale.

His children Sara and Moe Jr. carried that instinct forward. Not what merely sells. What resonates. That distinction still drives every collection.

The materials earn their place. Wood warms the edges. Stone steadies the eye. Steel adds tension. Glass lets the composition breathe. A hand-worked surface keeps a modern room from feeling too resolved.

The goal was never perfection. It was presence.

The Craft

Material First - Trend Second

Every collection is designed in-house, then built through a manufacturing network developed over decades. Vietnam, India, Italy, Poland, Canada, the USA. Not the lowest-cost option in any of those places. Long-term makers who've been held to the same standards long enough that the standards stopped needing to be explained.

The construction is what you'd expect from that kind of relationship. Solid hardwood frames. High-density foam. Hardware that doesn't announce itself by failing early. These are not selling points so much as baseline expectations that a lot of furniture quietly fails to meet.

The materials go further than that. Acacia grain that no engineered surface comes close to replicating. Stone that grounds a room both visually and physically, which are different things and both matter. Mixed metals chosen for tension rather than coordination. FSC-certified wood and responsible sourcing throughout, though the more honest argument for it shows up over time, in how the pieces age rather than what the spec sheet says.

- Moe's does not source furniture. It curates it.
