The front face of the Mako bar cabinet is a study in tonal restraint: grey shagreen-patterned polyurethane across two doors, framed tightly in solid black oak, the brass bar pulls the only element that introduces warmth on the exterior. The oak frame reads as a dark border around the textured grey, which stops the doors from disappearing into each other. From a distance the piece reads as a tall, matte grey form. Up close, the shagreen pattern has a quiet surface depth that flat lacquer does not.
The Mako Bar Cabinet from Moe's Home Collection opens to glass interior shelves and dedicated wine storage, with a blue fabric back panel adding a layer of color inside the cabinet that has no parallel on the exterior. The exterior is composed and cool; the interior has warmth and personality. The open brass-finished metal base lifts the cabinet visually off the floor, the square bar legs and lower stretcher keeping the 191-pound cabinet from reading as a monolith. The brass handles and base alike read more warmly in evening light than in daylight, which is relevant for a piece designed around after-dinner use.

That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone decided, a long time ago, that material and craft were worth the extra conversation, and never really stopped having it.

The Origin
A Family That BuiltSomething From Nothing
Moe Samieian Sr. arrived in Canada with an engineering degree and almost nowhere to use it. So he sold rugs at road shows, worked on commission, and learned the retail floor through years of direct customer contact.
In 1986 he opened his first store in Vancouver. Walking the trade shows, he kept noticing the same thing: most furniture looked identical. So he started hunting for pieces with something to say. Antiques. Flea-market finds. Objects with texture and history. More stores followed, and in 1999 he moved decisively into wholesale.
His children Sara and Moe Jr. carried that instinct forward. Not what merely sells. What resonates. That distinction still drives every collection.
The materials earn their place. Wood warms the edges. Stone steadies the eye. Steel adds tension. Glass lets the composition breathe. A hand-worked surface keeps a modern room from feeling too resolved.
The goal was never perfection. It was presence.

The Craft
Material First - Trend Second
Every collection is designed in-house, then built through a manufacturing network developed over decades. Vietnam, India, Italy, Poland, Canada, the USA. Not the lowest-cost option in any of those places. Long-term makers who've been held to the same standards long enough that the standards stopped needing to be explained.
The construction is what you'd expect from that kind of relationship. Solid hardwood frames. High-density foam. Hardware that doesn't announce itself by failing early. These are not selling points so much as baseline expectations that a lot of furniture quietly fails to meet.
The materials go further than that. Acacia grain that no engineered surface comes close to replicating. Stone that grounds a room both visually and physically, which are different things and both matter. Mixed metals chosen for tension rather than coordination. FSC-certified wood and responsible sourcing throughout, though the more honest argument for it shows up over time, in how the pieces age rather than what the spec sheet says.
