Description

Black Cast Aluminum Greyhound Sculpture | 27 Inch | Sculpture

A sitting greyhound at full sculptural scale -- neck extended upward, head held alert, front legs straight at the ground, haunches settled into the seated position. The form captures the greyhound's most characteristic qualities: the narrow elongated head, the deep chest, the long neck, the lean silhouette. Cast aluminum in matte black with subtle dimensional variation across the surface that prevents the finish from reading as uniformly flat. In daylight the form reads through its three-dimensional contour and the depth of the cast anatomy; in evening lamplight the dark surface absorbs and the silhouette becomes the primary read.

At 27 inches tall the piece has genuine presence on a console, credenza, or floor. The greyhound has a long history as a sculptural subject -- cast and modeled dog forms occupied English country interiors for centuries, connecting to a decorative vocabulary where the animal had both aesthetic and social resonance. In matte black rather than patinated bronze or painted plaster, this version sits at the edge of that tradition without fully belonging to it. The historical reference is legible; the finish is contemporary.

At 10.2 pounds the aluminum cast is solid for its size. In a room with other dark elements the black sculpture integrates; in a paler room it reads as the room's primary dark accent object at this height and scale. The piece does not require a period room to earn its place -- the form is strong enough to read as sculpture first.

Moe's Home Collection:Forty Years of Furniture With a Point of View

Some brands earn trust loudly. Moe's has never needed to. The evidence shows up in rooms, season after season, in pieces that end up feeling more considered than their owners quite anticipated. More grounded. More alive.

That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone decided, a long time ago, that material and craft were worth the extra conversation, and never really stopped having it.

The Pieces Feel Found - Not Simply Bought

The Origin

A Family That BuiltSomething From Nothing

Moe Samieian Sr. arrived in Canada with an engineering degree and almost nowhere to use it. So he sold rugs at road shows, worked on commission, and learned the retail floor through years of direct customer contact.

In 1986 he opened his first store in Vancouver. Walking the trade shows, he kept noticing the same thing: most furniture looked identical. So he started hunting for pieces with something to say. Antiques. Flea-market finds. Objects with texture and history. More stores followed, and in 1999 he moved decisively into wholesale.

His children Sara and Moe Jr. carried that instinct forward. Not what merely sells. What resonates. That distinction still drives every collection.

The materials earn their place. Wood warms the edges. Stone steadies the eye. Steel adds tension. Glass lets the composition breathe. A hand-worked surface keeps a modern room from feeling too resolved.

The goal was never perfection. It was presence.

The Craft

Material First - Trend Second

Every collection is designed in-house, then built through a manufacturing network developed over decades. Vietnam, India, Italy, Poland, Canada, the USA. Not the lowest-cost option in any of those places. Long-term makers who've been held to the same standards long enough that the standards stopped needing to be explained.

The construction is what you'd expect from that kind of relationship. Solid hardwood frames. High-density foam. Hardware that doesn't announce itself by failing early. These are not selling points so much as baseline expectations that a lot of furniture quietly fails to meet.

The materials go further than that. Acacia grain that no engineered surface comes close to replicating. Stone that grounds a room both visually and physically, which are different things and both matter. Mixed metals chosen for tension rather than coordination. FSC-certified wood and responsible sourcing throughout, though the more honest argument for it shows up over time, in how the pieces age rather than what the spec sheet says.

- Moe's does not source furniture. It curates it.
