Description

Natural Acacia Abstract Sculpture on Wood Base | 14 Inch | Sculpture

A biomorphic carved form in solid acacia -- lens-shaped, roughly oval, with two through-openings cut into the mass: one larger oval near the center, one smaller circle toward one end. The negative spaces are the composition; the solid acacia reads because of the voids, and the voids read because of the solid. Two slim metal rods raise the carved form above a small rectangular wood base, separating it from its own plinth and giving it the quality of an exhibited object rather than a resting one. The whole arrangement is composed as a display piece rather than simply a decorative object.

The acacia grain flows across the carved surface in warm brown tones with natural variation -- darker lines where the grain compresses, lighter zones where it opens. No finish obscures the material; the wood reads as itself at every surface. At 14 by 4.5 by 15 inches the piece is properly scaled for a console, bookshelf, or side table -- tall enough to register from standing height, compact enough not to crowd surrounding objects. The through-openings mean the form reads differently depending on the angle and the light: from directly front the two holes are clearly legible; in raking lamplight the edges of each void cast shadows that shift as the light moves.

On a pale surface it reads as a warm material object; against a dark background the carved form and its openings read as silhouette. This type of object rewards placement in a position where light can actually reach it -- against a lit wall or near a lamp rather than in a corner where the grain and the shadow play of the negative spaces go unseen.

Moe's Home Collection:Forty Years of Furniture With a Point of View

Some brands earn trust loudly. Moe's has never needed to. The evidence shows up in rooms, season after season, in pieces that end up feeling more considered than their owners quite anticipated. More grounded. More alive.

That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone decided, a long time ago, that material and craft were worth the extra conversation, and never really stopped having it.

The Pieces Feel Found - Not Simply Bought

The Origin

A Family That BuiltSomething From Nothing

Moe Samieian Sr. arrived in Canada with an engineering degree and almost nowhere to use it. So he sold rugs at road shows, worked on commission, and learned the retail floor through years of direct customer contact.

In 1986 he opened his first store in Vancouver. Walking the trade shows, he kept noticing the same thing: most furniture looked identical. So he started hunting for pieces with something to say. Antiques. Flea-market finds. Objects with texture and history. More stores followed, and in 1999 he moved decisively into wholesale.

His children Sara and Moe Jr. carried that instinct forward. Not what merely sells. What resonates. That distinction still drives every collection.

The materials earn their place. Wood warms the edges. Stone steadies the eye. Steel adds tension. Glass lets the composition breathe. A hand-worked surface keeps a modern room from feeling too resolved.

The goal was never perfection. It was presence.

The Craft

Material First - Trend Second

Every collection is designed in-house, then built through a manufacturing network developed over decades. Vietnam, India, Italy, Poland, Canada, the USA. Not the lowest-cost option in any of those places. Long-term makers who've been held to the same standards long enough that the standards stopped needing to be explained.

The construction is what you'd expect from that kind of relationship. Solid hardwood frames. High-density foam. Hardware that doesn't announce itself by failing early. These are not selling points so much as baseline expectations that a lot of furniture quietly fails to meet.

The materials go further than that. Acacia grain that no engineered surface comes close to replicating. Stone that grounds a room both visually and physically, which are different things and both matter. Mixed metals chosen for tension rather than coordination. FSC-certified wood and responsible sourcing throughout, though the more honest argument for it shows up over time, in how the pieces age rather than what the spec sheet says.

- Moe's does not source furniture. It curates it.
