Joe Colombo Lighting

Alongside Vico Magistretti, one of the most important designers in shaping the Oluce style was Joe Colombo. This Italian design radical helped give Oluce lighting its futuristic, space-age look starting in the 1960s. Born in Milan in 1930, Colombo trained as an artist and quickly developed an obsession with circular shapes, movement, and ergonomics. His "visionary" lens aimed to imagine how people would live and work in the future. Colombo's partnership with Oluce resulted in lamps like the rotating globe of the Acrilica series, the gimbaled spheres of the Caboche collection, and his tour de force, the mobile, poseable Universe. The latter's rotating spotlights embodied space-age bachelor pad style....
